A sequence is a function defined on the natural numbers: an infinite, ordered list of real numbers. In this section we fix the definition and the notation , we distinguish between explicit assignment and assignment by recurrence, and we meet the two fundamental families, arithmetic and geometric, which will then be studied in detail.
