The Werner formulae transform a product of sines and cosines into a sum; the sum-to-product formulae carry out the inverse move, from sum to product. Both are derived from the addition formulae and are valuable tools: the sum-to-product formulae, in particular, allow a sum of trigonometric functions to be factorised, reducing many equations to the zero-product law.
